The Blooming Collective Talks: Sleep Disorders - Secrets & Solutions

Wed, 10 Jun 2026
17:45 - 18:45

Open to public (registration essential!)

The Blooming Collective is a series of monthly gatherings for women. Each session offers thoughtful conversation, practical tools, and shared experiences designed to support living well at every stage of life. The tone is relaxed, friendly, and inclusive - more like a group conversation than a class or lecture.

While topics explore areas such as emotional health, ageing confidently, sleep, nutrition, creativity, and connection, the real focus is on enjoying meaningful discussions, learning from one another, and building community.

Talks will be held every month with guest speakers joining throughout the year. Come to one or come to many - you’ll take something valuable away each time.

Session 6: Sleep Disorders - Secrets & Solutions

Sleep plays a vital role in our physical and emotional wellbeing, yet many of us struggle to get the rest our bodies and minds need. In this session, we are fortunate to have Peter Eastwood, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) at Murdoch University for an enlightening and practical conversation about sleep disorders - what they are, why they matter, and what we can do about them.

Peter is a highly respected biomedical research scientist with an international reputation in sleep and respiratory physiology. His career spans academic leadership roles, previously serving as a Founding Director of the Centre for Sleep Science at UWA, President of the Australasian Sleep Association and Director of The Raine Study. Alongside his current role at Murdoch University, he is the Asia/Australia representative on the World Sleep Council and continues to lead research in both university and clinical settings. His work has been central to advancing understanding of how sleep quality affects health across the lifespan, and he regularly contributes to global initiatives to elevate sleep health on public health agendas.

Peter will unpack common sleep problems, explain why they occur, and share practical, evidence-based strategies to improve sleep quality. The session will explore how sleep affects mental health, physical wellbeing, energy, and healthy ageing, while separating myths from facts in a clear, relatable way.

As with all Blooming Collective gatherings, the emphasis is on meaningful conversation, shared experience, and learning from one another. Whether sleep comes easily to you or it’s something you’d like to improve, this session promises valuable takeaways for everyone!
