Members Event We are open every Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm. For members to complete their project work, starting 26th Sept 2026 to 12th Dec 2026. Project could include something you started at home or an item from the Xmas woodcraft series.   If you have completed the Intro to Woodworking workshop, you would have access to handtools & power tools.  Note: Some power tools are being checked at present.  Please bring your own materials for projects, only off cuts of wood are available for use. Have you ever wonder how to avoid your treasured textile disasters ?  Event open to members and non members   The Subiaco Women's shed is fortunate to have Gaynor Ashford from the Embroiders' Guild of WA, Textile Collection Group, to share her knowledge on Textile Disasters and Conservation. You are  invited to bring along an article of significance to you - Gaynor will suggest the best way to preserve it  See you there ! Registration essential : Members - FREE; Non members - $10 About Gaynor Ashford: Gaynor Ashford joined the Textile Collection group of the Embroiderers’ Guild of WA in 2006. She completed the Certificate of Museum Studies and studied at the Conservation labs of the WA Museum. She also volunteered at the Anglican Archives and the Sisters of Mercy Archives. She enjoys the work of textile conservation where all manner of textiles are prepared for safe storage, for display and exhibition. The stories these objects tell give depth to the history of life in Western Australia. From a piece of lace collar belonging to a fine lady, a tea cloth embroidered in the long hours aboard an emigrant ship, to an embroidered laundry apron. The exquisite embroidery challenges made by members who worked for the family by day, and stitched as a pleasure for themselves in the evening. www.embroiderersguildwa.org.au

Public Event "Ready to awaken your inner music and set it free?" The Subiaco Women's Shed is honoured to host Machi's Music Circle, a fortnightly music series for positive wellbeing. This session theme is Australian March. Come & have a go!  Places are limited so book your tickets here!  No prior musical experience or attendance to prior session is needed. ************************************************ Hello, my name is Machi Ishida (石田真知), a percussionist and marimba player from Japan, starting my new life chapter here in Perth!   I’m so excited to announce my new percussion and music workshop! 🥁 These percussion sessions are designed to be relaxed, enjoyable, and accessible for everyone, regardless of musical experience. The aim is to create a warm and welcoming space where everyone can enjoy music at their own pace. We will use simple percussion instruments and body percussion to explore rhythm, play together, and share the joy of making music. Percussion, in particular, allows us to feel joy in a very direct and physical way. I have been surrounded by music since I was born, and through my musical journey, there is one thing I feel deeply grateful for: the ability to experience the beauty of sound and music. Listening to sound and creating music can touch our emotions, like a language beyond words. Through sound, we can also feel natural connections and a sense of resonance with others.  These are truly beautiful experiences, and I would love to share them with you. I truly look forward to sharing these musical moments with you! Members only event Woodcraft for Christmas Interested in doing some woodcraft for Christmas? We will be looking at various woodcraft ideas for Christmas in fortnightly sessions. This session theme is Baubles. Join us for discussions and workshops, on what and how to make Christmas themed items. Places are limited, book your ticket now! ******************************* What to Expect: Hands-On Experience:  Refresh practical skills (ie. Use of Power drill, Japanese Saw). Project Planning:  Every session, we will present a different Christmas themed idea. We will go through Project Planning and Shopping List for the project of your choice. The details are: Date : Thursday 17th September 2026 Time: 5.45pm door opens 6.00pm - 7.00pm AGM. Address: Subiaco Women Shed 241 Rokeby Road, Subiaco (entrance via the undercroft) As previously announced, all committee positions will fall vacant, and will be refilled by election at the Annual General Meeting. This step is being taken by the current Committee to offer the opportunity to other members who may be willing and able to contribute to the Shed by taking up these important and meaningful roles.  To ensure continuity of the Shed, the current Committee have renominated for their roles for 2026-2027 to mitigate the possibility that no new nominations are submitted. Full descriptions can be found in the Rules of Association on our website. Please respond by email with your nomination for one of these roles by Wednesday 09th September 2026 to secretary@subiws.org.au. The nominations received will be announced by email on Thursday 10th September 2026. The chair of the AGM can, at their discretion accept additional nominations at the meeting. A reminder on the rules for nomination: You must be a current member, at least 18 years of age. You may nominate yourself, or may be nominated by another member with your consent.
